How many people in the United States read books?
1/3 of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives.
42 percent of college graduates never read another book after college.
80 percent of U.S. families did not buy or read a book last year.
70 percent of U.S. adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years.
57 percent of new books are not read to completion.
70 percent of books published do not earn back their advance.
70 percent of the books published do not make a profit.
Well this answers the question of why it is truly hard for new authors to break into the literary industry, American apathy. However, let’s take a look at the adult entertainment industry to include erotic literature, which FACEBOOK is greatly over populated.
“The idea that pornography is a $10 billion business is often credited to a study by Forrester Research. This figure gets repeated over and over. The only problem is that there is no such study. In 1998, Forrester published a report on the online “adult content” industry, which it pegged at $750 million to $1 billion in annual revenue. The $10 billion aggregate figure was un-sourced and mentioned in passing. For the $10 billion figure to be accurate you have to add in adult video networks and pay-per-view movies on cable and satellite, Web sites, in-room hotel movies, phone sex, sex toys and magazines–and still you can’t get there.”
Damn! So the only way we can make money as writers is to embellish about vaginas, penises, tongues, mouths, breasts, and anuses. Where is the creativity in that all, I have to do is write about sexual experiences past and present, categorize them i.e. sexy, big boobs, fat, semi-fat, ugly, gorgeous, poor, wealthy, white, black, red, yellow, speckled, plaid, love of my life, or scandalous bitches and you tell me that I can have a following that purchases my exploits…where’s the creativity in that…where’s the imagination of the author…or all readers middle aged white women mad or bored with their husbands looking for a fantasy sexual experience by a guy in a cowboy hat. Unbelievable! Well, I had the opportunity of reading poetry, opinion editorials, and short stories by Shan Obi, a graduate student for Louisiana State University. I was impressed, utterly impressed, her imagination is limitless and creativity over the top, that’s why I signed her to my company allowing her 90 days to create whatever she can without inhibitions. Thank you Shan, you are like a breath of fresh air without the smell of vagina or penis, you are my second signed author; we will do great things. May the Wind always be at Your Back, God Speed!
